Welcome to the Cruise Pack Mission Ocho Rios page. This is where I show you what you can do to help needy children, while taking a cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

There are two options that I will give you and you may choose the one that works best.

Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal

Before I share with you the two ways you can help, let me give you an idea of what the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal is like.

Your ship will pull alongside a long pier. From there you will walk to the cruise terminal and through a gate. Except for vendors and taxi drivers, the local residents are not allowed in that area.

However, you may leave the cruise terminal on foot and walk for ten (10) minutes to get to the town area. Here you will find many locals and children to whom you may give your backpack.

Option 1

Let us now look at two ways to help needy children, when taking a cruise ship vacation to Ocho Rios.

Option 1: 

As outlined on our main cruise pack mission page, you are encouraged to pack a backpack with items children can use and bring that along with you.

If there are three or four people in your family, consider bringing three or four backpacks (if you can).

Upon leaving the cruise terminal, walk to the town or ask a taxi driver to take you. Look for a driver with proper ID.

After getting to the town, mill around for a bit until you identify children whom you feel certain can use the items in your backpack.

Option 2

Option 2:

This option will require more of your time, but it will be quite rewarding.

Recently (October 2014), I took an Ocho Rios cruise and visited a school in the area. The school, Ocho Rios Primary, is just about five (5) minutes by car from the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal.

I brought along a piece of luggage with school supplies for needy children and gave those to the principal, Ms. McFarlane, and the Guidance Counselor, Ms. McBean.

In addition, I had eight (8) goody bags which I shared with students in two different classes. The principal allowed me to address the classes. I followed by addresses with some simple questions and gave the goody bags to those who answered correctly.

This was a rich experience.

Where do you come in? You may choose to bring along your backpack/s with school supplies and deliver them to Ocho Rios Primary School. 

If you have several people cruising with you and they are each willing to bring along a backpack, this is even better. Contact the principal, Ms. McFarlane, before you sail. The school's numbers are: 876-974-2432 and 876-974-9112.

The principal will be delighted to hear that you want to donate school supplies to some needy children of her school. (You may tell her that Peter Grant of Petes Travel Center referred you. Thanks!)

To get to the school, use a taxi or contact Mr. Derek Davis at 876-847-8738. The principal had him pick me up at the cruise terminal. 

After completing your Cruise Pack Mission Ocho Rios task, be sure to enjoy something fun in the area before returning to the cruise ship.

Also, please tell others what you have done (not to brag) and encourage them to do the same.

I believe that you will be greatly rewarded for taking a little time out of your cruise vacation to share with someone in need.
