Cruise Industry News

Here are two of several things happening in the cruise industry:

1. Norwegian Bans Beverages Brought Onboard

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that as of July 15, 2016, guests are no longer allowed to bring certain beverages onboard.

Gone are the days when guests could bring items such as water and soda along.

There are two exceptions to the rule: 1. guests may still bring bottled wine for personal use, subject to inspection and a corkage fee; and 2. guests may also bring along factory-sealed purified or distilled water for use with either medical devices or baby formula.

2. Royal Caribbean To Move Oasis Class Ship To Miami

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has announced plans to build a new terminal at the Port of Miami. The cruise company will invest some $200 million to add a terminal large enough to house its Oasis-class ships.

There are currently three Oasis-class ships: Oasis, Allure and Harmony of the Seas. The first two ships currently sail from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale and Harmony of the Seas will soon be added.

However, RCCL will be moving Oasis of the Seas to Port Canaveral near Orlando and will move one or two other Oasis-class ships to Miami, when the new terminal opens in 2018. By then, a fourth Oasis-class ship will be added to the fleet.

RCCL's Oasis-class ships are its biggest vessels and the largest passenger boats in the world.

Plan A Group Cruise

A group cruise is generally comprised of at least 8 cabins (number varies by cruise lines), each with 2 or more passengers.

Group Cruise Ideas: graduation celebration, retirement celebration, family reunions, employee appreciation, club or organization fundraiser, girlfriends' getaway, couples' retreat, church outing, wedding, etc.

Reasons for Planning a Group Cruise:

Cruising with a group is much more fun than cruising alone. I have done both and really prefer sailing with a group. Furthermore, there are perks to be had when cruising as a group.

Plan your group cruise today. Learn more about group cruises here.

Cruise Saving Tip

Here is something everyone loves - learning how to save a buck or two on their cruise ship vacation.

Tip: Have Your Cruise Set Up As A Group Booking

Do you really want to spend less on your cruise getaway? Ask your travel agent to set up your reservation as a group booking. Note: This depends on if you have 7 or more months to the sail date.

You may not have planned your family cruise vacation to be a group getaway, but you may be able to turn it into one. Get your dates to the travel agent and ask friends and relatives if they want to travel with you.

Here is why: Setting up your booking as a group will more often than not give you a lower rate than that obtained on a single room booking.

Furthermore, if you are able to get others to sail with you, your Agent will get you travel perks such as onboard credit, if you meet the group quota (usually 8 cabins, but 5 with Carnival Cruise Line).

This is truly a great way to book your next cruise getaway and save some money.

Happy saving!
